When choosing the type of hardwood flooring you will install in your home, you will be
presented with many different types and styles of flooring, some of which will be made of real wood and some
of which will be constructed of other materials. Though these other options are quite beautiful as well, it
is often more cost-effective to select the real wood over other synthetic materials. Part of this is because
homes containing real hardwood floors hold their value, sell faster and can often be sold at higher
prices.

consider. Other than the walls, the floor represents the largest expanse of color or pattern in a room. Your
floor should compliment the furniture, fabrics and accessories that already occupy the space while enhancing
the unique personality of the room at large. Likewise, if you are moving into a new home and will be
replacing older furnishings with newer ones, you may decide to choose the floor first. Here you would simply
choose the furnishings that would match the floor and could initially select from more choices in the
beginning.

The
Wonders of Cork Flooring
Cork has been in use for thousands of
years. The Romans used cork as roofing material, in ship building,
and as shoe soles. In 3000 B.C., cork was being used for fishing
bobbers in China, Egypt, and Persia. In ancient Greece, cork trees
were thought to be symbols of honor, and only the priests were allowed to cut them down.
Today, cork is harvested throughout the Mediterranean. The largest producer of cork is Portugal, providing 50% of the world’s
supply of cork.

Cork is cellular in nature. Its cells are 14 sided, with strong, flexible walls. The cells combine to make a honeycomb pattern. The shape and flexibility of cork makes it waterproof and
airtight. These qualities combine to make a great flooring
material.
Cork flooring is very resistant to abrasion,
making it resilient to commercial and household traffic. Because of
its natural water resistance, cork can be used in any room of your home; it can also be used in public
buildings, such as schools, libraries, hotels, hospitals, and more.
Cork flooring is very compact, this enables the floor to regain its shape and recover from compression
quickly. Cork is also comfortable and cozy. It’s a great insulator, whether you live in a hot or cold climate, and it’s
comfortable to ones feet and legs. Cork is also a great acoustic
insulator, proving quiet throughout your home or business.

With its ability to resist moisture, cork flooring is antibacterial and
antimicrobial. It’s resistant to rot and insects
also. Cork flooring does not absorb dust or other airborne
particles; witch makes it a great choice for allergy sufferers.

One more benefit of cork flooring is that it is extremely environmentally friendly. Cork comes from the bark of the Cork Oak tree. This unique tree can re-grow its bark every nine years, and can be harvested an
average of 16 times in its 150-250 year lifespan. The bark is
harvested, cleaned, then ground and mixed with a resin and pressed into sheets and baked in a
kiln. The heat from the kiln, combined with the natural
properties in the bark, give the flooring a caramel color. Other colors can be achieved by adjusting heating
times, or adding dyes to the mixture. Cork floors are
lightweight and easy to install. The flooring can be purchased
in rolls or tiles that can float over existing floors. Cork
floors make a great addition to any home or business.
Problems with Health Insurance Premiums
What is it that seems so hard about getting health insurance? All day long there is
commercial after commercial about health insurance. Have you ever went and applied for health insurance
before? It’s a nightmare to pick the best one out of so many choices. They all sound so good on the front
end, but you could be looking at major problems on the back end. It is estimated that over 48 million
Americans did not have insurance at any given time last year. That number is staggering. You got to keep in
mind that this could include gaps in insurance coverage, meaning someone gets laid off for 3 months and finds
another job and starts their coverage back up.
It is known that most people receive insurance form their jobs, as being part of a
group of people. So at first it would seem the climb in unemployment is to blame for the uninsured, but
that’s not the case. It is estimated that 67% of the 48 million uninsured were actually part of a family
where at least 1 member worked full-time. So it’s not just the bad economy that is to blame. The majority of
those unemployed were making less than $20,000 a year. That’s below the poverty line. So the answer has got
to do with the amount of money health insurance cost that is the reason why all the people are
uninsured. Its not affordable to have a health insurance
policy. Why is it that health insurance is so high? Well, have you ever been to the emergency room without
having insurance and got the bill in the mail? A trip to the emergency room will cost you $5000 minimum if
you go for just being sick. Then once they give you a discount for paying out of pocket, it dwindles down to
about $2500-3000. This is where the issues of affordability begin. First you got the doctors to pay, who make
big salaries. But they have to because they’ve been to school for the past 8 years, accruing school loans
like crazy. Notice how your bill goes down when you pay out of pocket. The hospitals charge premium margins
to the insurance companies because they are the ones paying for it. Individuals don’t have that kind of money
lying around, especially making under $20,000 a year.
So the hospitals big margins come from insurance jobs which hike
the premiums up for policy holders. Since all people are eligible
for basic health care when they walk into the emergency room, it puts a dent in the hospitals bottom line
because the majority of those people don’t pay it back. The
hospitals have to make that lost money up somewhere, so they pile it up on the ones who are paying, the
insurance companies. Let’s not forget that health insurance
providers are not in it because they care. They have to make money
too. So they will deny claims anywhere they can, which puts more
stress on the pockets of the hospitals again. Another factor for
rising health insurance issues is the strain that prescription drug companies are putting on the medical
market. The years and years of research done to develop new
medicines cost money. So the medicine companies have to charge a
premium margin to regain those lost dollars.
